Who is "Ghahrenam"?

Updated: Oct 18, 2023

In reference to a term or phrase that signifies the current situation of those who were detained, imprisoned, tortured, or subjected to sexual assault during the 1401 revolutionary uprising, and sometimes even ostracized by their families, we have given it considerable thought.

We pondered upon what name would aptly describe the present condition of these anonymous and faceless fighters, previously referred to as the "#Faceless." We needed a name to kickstart a campaign aimed at providing assistance to these anonymous combatants. This campaign is composed of human rights experts and activists who seek solutions to support these soldiers and revolutionaries who have suffered. It goes by the name of #Women_Life_Freedom.

Finally, we have come to see "Ghahrenam" as an apt description of their current state, as they have fought in silence and anonymity, dedicating their bodies, lives, possessions, and spirits to the revolution, becoming "Ghahrenam" which means faceless heroes in English.

To these dear "Ghahrenam" we convey this message: we stand with you, your nation has not forgotten you, it recognizes and appreciates your selflessness, and is aware of the hardships you have endured.

We open our arms to protect and support you. We are with you, and alongside you, to stand once again, stronger than ever, and reclaim your lives.
