Healing from sexual torture, Rebuilding lives.
In the vast spectrum of human experiences, natural disasters, major social upheavals, wars, and revolutions a large number of citizens are affected and take the brunt of the situation. These people require the support and care of the society to return to normal life.
In the last four decades, our country Iran and the Iranian people have experienced many social and political changes, and have repeatedly risen against the tyranny of the Islamic regime. Many have lost their lives and many more have experienced physical and psychological tortures during detention and imprisonment. A large number of detainees have been sexually violated which has left them with severe scars. These groups of citizens require physical and psychological support in order to return to normal life.
Based on this knowledge, and especially after the killing of Mahsa/Jina amini in the police custody and the
Woman-Life-Freedom movement in 2022, a group of us, psychologists, sociologists, lawyers and human rights activists got together and formed Ghahrenam in order to take our loved ones under protection and treatment until they return to normal life.
What our renowned poet and philosopher, Sa’adi said in 13th century AD is the light to our path:
Humans are members of a whole
in creation of one essence and soul
If one member is afflicted with pain
the others remain uneasy in strain.
We call on all Iranians and those who love Iran across the globe to join us to take under the umbrella of psychological, social and physical support, those who paid a heavy price for standing against the inhumane policies of the Islamic regime. Maybe together we can heal their physical and psychological wounds and help them return to society.
We shake the hands of those of you, who reply to our appeal, with this in mind, that together we can heal the wounds of many who took the brunt of the Islamic regime’s brutality and return them to the society.

Get to Know Us
Ghahrenam is a nonprofit campaign comprised of medical professionals, psychologists, psychiatrists, lawyers, legal advisers, and human rights activists who have volunteered to help those who in recent years have been detained, imprisoned and suffered torture, especially sexual and psychological abuse while in custody. In addition, we try to cultivate the basics of human rights in society.
Our volunteers offer guidance, counseling and legal advice to those who approach us, be it the individuals or their families. Ghahrenam is not associated with any group
or individual. As a human rights organisation, we denounce and oppose verbal and behaviour abuse to anyone or group. We try to establish the culture of tolerance, humanity, peace and constructive dialogue and invite anyone who has the same beliefs to join us.
Our main aim is to help those citizens who, during the civil uprisings of recent years have been detained by the Islamic
regime and while in custody have experienced psychological and physical violence, especially sexual violence. Unfortunately, some of these citizens have spent years in custody and upon release, a number have been rejected by their families. These citizens are in dire need of care and treatment, both physically and psychologically in order to return to society. Our aim and focus is to treat them once they are released and also find mechanisms to force the islamic regime to stop its inhumane treatment of opponents as tools to intimidate and silence the society.
